The Tune Tornado Service

Tune Tornado connects artists with their fans. Tune Tornado serves two groups: artists, and members.

Artists

Tune Tornado is nothing without our artists and musicians.  We and our members recruit independent musicians and song writers to join the service and offer rewards to their fans for promoting the sales of their songs.  If you’re an artist, please visit the Musicians section of our site to learn more.  If you know an artist, please see below to learn more about how members can earn rewards for scouting new talent for Tune Tornado.

Members

Tune Tornado members pay nothing to join, and have no obligation to buy anything ever.  Members can buy music they like from Tune Tornado artists, and can earn rewards when they share their music with friends who decide to buy too.

Tune Tornado’s relationship with you is governed by a legal agreement with various terms and conditions (accessible here) (the “Terms of Service” or the “Agreement”).  This is a summary of some of the key points of those terms, but it doesn’t in any way replace the full Agreement, which you must read and agree to before joining.

We believe that music is important for people of every age, but if you are under 18, the law says your parent or legal guardian must review and accept the terms and conditions on your behalf.  IF YOU ARE UNDER 13, you may not use Tune Tornado.

The purpose of Tune Tornado is to help promote and find fans for the music of new independent artists.  Tune Tornado has collaborated with the artists and created a “Rewards” program for Members that help spread the word.  All of the Rewards are paid by the artist (through Tune Tornado) to thank the Members for their help in finding more fans for their new music.

You can even become a mini-talent agent of sorts by letting us know if you know a musician who could benefit from working with Tune Tornado!  If they sign up and give you credit for the introduction, you can earn additional Rewards, including cash payments.

Rewards

Once you become a Member, you can earn cash Rewards when you:

(a) purchase an eligible song,
(b) refer it to people who might enjoy it, and
(c) they purchase the song through Tune Tornado’s Service  

You can earn additional Rewards if those folks become Members and successfully refer the song their friends.  A few things to keep in mind though.  

• You don’t receive your Rewards (i.e., get paid) until we receive the money from the artist; this may take up to 90 days from the date of the sale;
• Currently, cash payments are made only through PayPal; if you want to receive cash, you will need to set up a PayPal account associated with your email address – alternatively, you can choose to receive your Rewards as an electronic Amazon gift card.

 
Rewards are determined on a percentage basis, but this is an example for a $1 track:

Because it’s a percentage, Rewards for a $.49 track would be about 1/2 of these numbers.

Example 1:  

If you refer a song to 20 friends and 3 of them buy it, your Reward is 3 X $0.10 = $0.30.  If 2 of those 3 buyers become a member of Tune Tornado and refer the song to 20 of their friends and each of them generates two new Member buyers,  your Reward is 2 X 2 X $0.06 = $0.24, for a total of $.54.  If each of these buyers is able to only find one new buyer, your additional Reward is 1 X 2 X 2 X $0.04 = $0.16.  Assuming none of these Level 2 buyers refer the song on any further, your total Reward for this song would be $0.70.  The net result is that while you didn’t make any money, you effectively bought a song you love for $0.29 that otherwise would have cost you $0.99 ($0.99 purchase price on iTunes - $0.70 in Rewards = $0.29).

Example 2:

If, however, the song you love is one that your friends love too, the Rewards can become a lot more interesting.  If just a few more of your friends (e.g. 5 of the 20) and of their friends in turn buy the song and 3 of each 5 become Members, your Reward could be significantly greater:

  Level 0: 5 X $.10 = $.50
  Level 1: 3 X 5 X $.06 = $.90
  Level 2: 3 X 3 X 5 X $.04 = $1.80
  Level 3: 3 X 3 X 3 X 5 X $.02 = $2.70
  Level 4: 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 X 5 X $.02 = $8.10
  Level 5: 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 X 3 X 5 X $.01 = $12.15
  Total: $26.15

In this example, you and your extended group of friends have created a mini-hit that pays you back a multiple of your original song cost.  All the more reason to pick songs you really like!

Of course, for any given song, your results may be better or worse, depending on a number of factors, some of which you can control and some of which you cannot.  

A few important things to keep in mind – this is not a get rich quick scheme.  It is designed to help independent artists find an audience for their music by rewarding fans like you for recommending music you love (or you wouldn’t have bought it in the first place).  You only get Rewards based on actual sales of the music connected to your Referral, not for simply recruiting additional Members.  But, as you can see above, the Rewards can add up fast – and this Reward structure was created with the power and viral nature of the internet and social media in mind.  

Referral Limits

We want you to refer only music that you LOVE – not contribute to the spam problem – so, until further notice from Tune Tornado, you are limited to referring 5 new songs each month.  Choose wisely and get the word out!

Account Security

You need to keep your password to the Tune Tornado Service secure.  If someone obtains your password, then they may get access to sensitive account information, including the ability to take your Rewards.

Honesty

You need to tell us the truth when you register, and especially if you earn enough Rewards that we have to get your tax information.  You may only refer songs to people you know personally.
